Frequently asked questions on Dental Implants
Many people are unfamiliar with what Dental Implants are. We want to provide you a short review of some of the most asked questions.
What are Dental Implants?
- Implants replace missing teeth. A dental implant may be an option for you instead of a crown, bridge, or loose denture. Dr. Sambursky can consult with you to determine if implant dentistry is right for you. An implant is made from metal, called titanium. When it is placed into the bone it will fuse with your bone and become an anchor for a crown, bridge, or denture.
Advantages to dental implants include:
- - Long lasting snap on alternatives to removable dentures
- - Highly stable support for the replacement of one or more teeth
- - Avoids cutting down adjacent teeth as required by bridgework
- - Predictable, natural looking and natural feeling results
Implant dentistry does require careful planning, to ensure a successful result. If you are a candidate for dental implants, you will undergo two stages in implant therapy.
1. Surgical Phase - The implant is surgically placed into the bone and allowed to heal for 3-6 months. A conventional restoration is sometimes used temporarily until the implants are integrated during the next phase.
2. Restorative Phase - The implant is uncovered, impressions are taken, and the final restoration is fitted.
